Quiltopia & Open House

2nd Annual Community Quilt Show
Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Alderwood Assisted Living

Alderwood Assisted Living will host its 2nd annual community event, ‘Quiltopia,’ and Open House on Saturday, September 28, 2024, welcoming visitors and quilting enthusiasts from 10 AM to 3 PM to celebrate all about the love of quilts. This casual gathering, dedicated to quilting enthusiasts and creators in Southern Oregon, encourages the community to explore the artistry, history, and personal narratives intricately woven into each legacy piece.

Quiltopia offers a unique opportunity to admire over 200 meticulously hand-sewn quilts, graciously presented by Alderwood’s talented residents and their families. Moreover, the event proudly showcases a special exhibit of quilted masterpieces brought exclusively for this occasion by renowned quilt expert and author, Julie Silber, who joins us from the San Francisco Bay area. Her presence enriched the event with compelling narratives, design insights, and captivating stories reflecting the vibrant history of quilting. The inaugural Quiltopia event in 2023 drew hundreds of attendees, leaving 2024 as an eagerly anticipated event.

Enhancing this delightful occasion will be a scrumptious lunch menu and beverages thoughtfully crafted by Alderwood staff.

Alderwood Assisted Living’s residents and devoted staff are thrilled, once again, to share this heartwarming event with the Southern Oregon community. With a profound passion for seniors, Alderwood aims to foster a sense of community where residents, staff, and guests alike can revel in the rich history of quilts across America.

About Alderwood Living
Living at Alderwood in Central Point

EverBloom at Alderwood

Making the Old Stronger, the Young Brighter, and Both Happier!

EverBloom at Alderwood is an innovative program designed to foster meaningful connections between youth and elders through a variety of activities. This program aims to give both populations a renewed sense of purpose, value, and contribution. By assigning high school students and Alderwood elders as “buddies” for the year, it encourages the development of lasting and meaningful relationships that transcend generational gaps.

The program seeks to rethink traditional elder care, education, and community engagement to enhance the lives of seniors, teens, and the broader community. To ensure a positive and impactful experience, students receive mentoring and education before meeting their elder buddies. This preparation helps students empathize with the elder population and alleviates any fears they may have about the interaction. Through these relationships, students and elders learn from each other, offering companionship, and cultivating true empathy and compassion.

For students of all ages—elementary, middle, and high school—EverBloom at Alderwood provides an authentic, unique, and age specific learning environment. All students will learn essential social skills, including how to respond to face-to-face interactions, set aside judgments, and remain focused in the moment. This enriching program not only benefits the both participants but also promotes a more connected and compassionate community.
