Growing Together: A New Community Garden Blossoms in Central Point

Growing Together: A New Community Garden Blossoms in Central Point

Something beautiful is beginning to bloom in the heart of Central Point. Just behind the Grange Co-op on 1st Street, a once-empty lot is being transformed into a vibrant community garden—an inspiring collaboration between Alderwood Assisted Living, Grange Co-op, and ACCESS.

This garden isn’t just about planting flowers and vegetables—it’s about cultivating connection, bridging generations, and giving back to our community in meaningful ways.

A Shared Vision Takes Root

The idea first took shape when lifelong friends Charles Bloom and Tony Fisher of Alderwood Assisted Living noticed the vacant space and imagined its potential. Inspired by a similar project Fisher had led in Healdsburg, California, the longtime friends saw an opportunity to create something lasting and impactful once again.

“We are so excited that the Grange Co-op saw our vision and allowed us to turn this piece of land into something beautiful and meaningful,” said Bloom. “Not only will it yield fresh, delicious produce and flowers, but it will also strengthen the bonds across our community. With Tony’s passion and creativity, we know this will be a tremendous success.”

With the support of Grange Co-op, the idea quickly grew into a community-wide initiative. The garden will supply fresh produce for Alderwood’s residents and help stock ACCESS’ food bank in Jackson County—nourishing both body and soul.

A Community Effort in Bloom

This project is powered by the hands and hearts of many: volunteers, students, residents, and local organizations are all coming together to create a space that nurtures not just the soil, but the spirit of Central Point.

The city’s newly appointed Mayor, Taneea Browning, has also offered her support, recognizing the garden as a symbol of what’s possible when a community unites for the common good. Representatives from Alderwood, Grange Co-op, and Access, along with Mayor Browning, will help break ground and usher in this next chapter of growth and giving.
